Thomas Porteous

Thomas Porteous was born in Liverpool in 1938. He was from a large close knit family and had 4 sisters and 1 brother.

Thomas joined the Army in 1956. He was in the Army for 3 years and was posted to Mons Demonstration Platoon and later to Cyprus.

He completed a further 3 years in the Territorial Army.

After leaving the Army he worked at Burnyeatz ship stores in Liverpool.

Married Evelyn Thomas in 1966 in Liverpool and then moved to Penketh in 1968

Thomas worked at Fords Car Factory in Liverpool until retirement.

Thomas and Evelyn had twin girls in 1972 named Jayne and Joanne.

Thomas loved the Army and often reminisced about it with his family.

The family enjoyed many holidays together, most recently a cruise around the Mediterranean. He loved visiting churches in the places he visited and was very interested in historical programmes and books.

Thomas was a DIY fanatic and could and would turn his hand to anything. He was a great carpenter and made a lot of his own furniture when he and Evelyn first got married.
