Demonstration Platoon

During the 1950s and 60s, the Lancashire Fusiliers periodically provided the Demonstration
Platoon at Mons OCS.

In the early1950s it was provided by our 2nd Bn, and in the later 50s and into the 60s by our 1st Bn.

This story and pic is from the 1957 Platoon.

In 1964 a platoon of us went to Mons OCS ,
Dick Hancock was Platoon Commander and Larry Parkes was Platoon Sergeant
Here`s what Mons look`s like now :-
I have marked the points of interest , so the Lads can get their bearings :-
1 ) Demonstation platoon (LF) barrack block
2 ) Basingstoke Canal ( remember the Mossie`s )
3 ) Guardroom
4 ) Barrack Square ( of RSM R Brittain Coldstream G. fame )
The long white building in the centre is where the Cadet`s Spider Billets were at one time and the white building on the left is a APTC tennis centre on the playing field that we used to use . St Omer ACC catering school was at the other side of the canal . The canal towpath ,our shortcut to town, is now well overgrown .
