This Advert appeared in 1st March 1958 edition of the Melody Maker.

Unveiling of statue by Jacob Epstein at Lewis’s departmental store Liverpool.
I came across this photo a few weeks ago. I was looking at old photographs of Liverpool. This is the unveiling of a statue called Liverpool Resurgent by Jacob Epstein. It was unveiled on the 20th November 1956. I noticed the photo had army fanfare trumpeters with hackles on. I contacted Derek Broadbent and low and behold he remembered the occasion, the name of the statue and even remembered the fanfare they played Adkins no 1. Derek is not sure who all the trumpeters were but he was on Eb trumpet, almost certainly Jim (Big Jim) Brackley and Ted Mathews. The others may have been Charlie (Chuffer) Cook and Frank Rigby. Peter Swensson.

This photo was taken at Fenham Barracks Newcastle upon Tyne. February 1959.

Peter Swensson is very grateful to Robin De Smet for finding this photo deep in the Band & Drums photos. With the help of Derek Broadbent, Allan Cordall, Brian Gill, and Bob Shelton they managed to name almost everyone in the photo. It's over 65 years since the photo was taken. It was taken just before the band joined the Battalion in Trieste.
