Army memories from Peter Barton
Geoffs longtime friend when he served and after they had served
togther
Geoff enlisted in the Lancashire Fusiliers in late 1959
he was one of the last intakes to passout at Wellington Barracks
Bury. After a short period moved from Sutton Coldfield to Osnabruck
Germany from the age of 19 to 24 we both served with the LFs
it was in Osnabruck 1960 to 1964 that he was my best pal serving
in the MT Plt and was part of the divisional Skill at Arms driving
skills which we won three years running. We would go
on leave many times together it was whilst we became the best
source of income to my sister who would wash and iron our shirts
ready for our regular visits to the pubs in Bury, Rishton, -
Gt Harwood, one time after a session in Rishton we didn't make
it home but decided to sleep in the car sometime in the night
we were a walkened by the local bobby showing him our ID cards
he walked away holding his nose muttering something to do with
squaddies
