or more affectionately known as Len was a happy and placid man with
a strong personality and moral principals... a straight man whocalled
a spade a spade but yet a very honest man and you knew where you stood
with him . An exceptionally conscientious and loyal man for many years
Len was supervisor for the Gas Board later to become British Gas until
he retired and then became the oldest butchers apprentice in town
a position he lasting for about 30 years....as he joined his son Len
in his shop....and there used to be some large dints in the freezer
lid to prove His prowess with a frozen leg of lamb.. An exeptionally
brave and courageous man .. Len served in the Army thoughout the war
he trained as a commando and his service took himto Egypt .. Italy
and Germany where he was taken prisoner for 4 and a half years.. Following
his dscharge from the Army Len continued his military career as he
joined the Territorial Army in Rochdale where he served for some 15
years...
He became President and Srecetary of the
Lancashire Fusiliers asscoiation Bury Branch and members from the
association are with us this morning...He also found time to enjoy
some holidays with his family.. all over Europe again with LF's and
even in France managed to find a Parade to join in... But at home
he enjoyed his Christmas time's at Blackpool... At home Len also looked
forwards to his Monday evenings spent with his son and friends at
Elton Liberal Club where he played snooker and enjoyed a pint or four
...But sadly Len was so very tired He was weary.. and now age and
with illness have proved to be just to much for him to bear..and so
now God in his love has called Len to his rest.. taken him into his
kingdom to that special place that he has prepared for him in the
Kingdom where he may now rest now rest and dwell in the house of the
lord for ever
