24063183 L/Cpl Brian Birtwistle

It is with deep regret that I have to report the death of L/Cpl Brian Birtwistle. (Big Brian).

Brian passed away on the 2nd February 2010 aged 62.

Brian served with the 1st Bn Lancashire Fusiliers and the 1st Bn Royal Regiment Of Fusiliers from
October 1967 to October 1972 in this short time with both battalions Brian was to serve in - Hong Kong,
Korea, Singa pore, Malaya, Germany (BAOR), Northern Ireland, and Gibralter. Brian was a MT Driver
attached both to the Mortar Platoon and Y Coy.

Brian joined the Rochdale Branch of the Fusilier Association in in 1987 aged 42 and was a very popular guy within the branch and it was not long before he was a serving member of the committee, he tried to attend most meetings and functions, fitting these in, with his very busy schedule as a bus driver for GMT.
He was a member of the "A" Team (Away). Where once a year we would visit Belgium and France visiting the WW1 Battle Field sites and Cemetaries, It is on these tours we have visited the 2nd Bn twice at Celle Germany Brian enjoyed these trips he and will be sadly missed by all members.

Brian leaves behind a much loved family, his Wife Carol, Brothers Danny and the late Roy and Bill, Sisters, Brenda, Doreen, and Mary, and our thoughts are with them.
