CORONATION DAY SOUVENIER ALBUM ~ TIENTSIN NORTH CHINA George VI Coronation day souvenier album, containing a programme of celebrations that took place in Tientsin, North China on the days between the 11th May 1937 and the 14th may 1937. The pamphlet contains pages with the photographs of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, the Royal Highnesses Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret Rose, the Queen Mother, Sir Hughe Montgomery Knatchbull-Hugessen ambassador to China, J.B. Affleck Consul-General in Tientsin, Brigadier A.H.Hopwood Commanding H.M.Forces in North China, A.E.Tipper Chairman British Municipal Council in Tientsin, and Lt. Col. R.F.H Massy Westrop Commanding 1st Battalion The Lancashire Fusiliers. Order of programme for the days celebrations, including the trooping the colour by the 1st Bn. The Lancashire Fusiliers, with an explanation of the cermony. Ye olde English faire, in which a village was built at the Race Club Gardens for the day. Details of the church service. Names of those who served on the General and sub committies organizing the celebrations. And finally a photograph of Gorden Hall in Tientsin illuminated. Attached to the album is a ribbon of blue, red and white colours. |
Little is written of the China tour completed by the 1st Bn during 1936-38. The Inscription reads:- Presented to the 1st Bn XX The Lancashire
Fusiliers. It was during this tour that the Japanese invaded China and it must have made for a very interesting time for all concerned! You will see from the pics that the LFs
frequently came eyeball to eyeball with the very men they would soon
be fighting as Chindits in Burma The Silver statue pictured above was presented to the Bn at the end of their tour, It is in the silver cabinet outside the Regimental Secretary's office in the Museum there is a silver Dragon also presented at the same time. the Museum has also now got the Tientsin Cup which is on display near the RRF gallery
